Mary's Farm - Klaus Larsen Roof Replacement
Challenge
Mary’s property in Lebanon, CT, is home to three major structures: her house, a large red garage barn, and a curved livestock barn. Each one was facing different roofing issues over the years, and each came with its own set of challenges.
Mary first reached out to Klaus Larsen Roofing five years ago when her home’s roof began leaking through the bathroom vent. The original roof was well over 20 years old and showing signs of wear, including granule loss and light seeping in near the ridge vent. It was clear the roof was past its lifespan and needed full replacement. With a desire for a long-term solution, Mary chose to invest in a high-quality roofing system that would offer both durability and peace of mind.
A few years later, the red garage barn became her next concern. After every storm, Mary found herself picking up shingles from the ground, some completely torn off, others barely hanging on. The repeated wind damage made it clear that the existing shingles were no longer able to hold up to the elements. Even though some underlayment was still intact, Mary didn’t want to risk interior damage. This barn has a steep roof and a large surface area, requiring a skilled roofing team.
The final and most challenging structure was the curved barn. Its steep, rounded slope had allowed years of rain, sun, and snow to leave clear streaks of weathering down the roof. Like the garage, this barn had also started shedding shingles, and Mary was understandably worried about protecting what she stored inside, including hay and equipment. The slope posed a unique challenge because standard installation wouldn’t hold up on such a steep pitch. The roofing crew would have to take extra steps to ensure everything stayed in place without fail during storms, snow, and wind.
Across all three buildings, Mary wasn’t just looking for any new roof, she wanted a solution that would last. With different rooflines, slopes, and structural conditions, each part of the job required its own approach. Her goal was simple, never have to worry about her roof again.
Solution
Five years ago, Mary in Lebanon, CT, reached out to Klaus Larsen Roofing for a full roof replacement on her home after discovering a leak coming through a bathroom vent. Our team came in after giving Mary's home a free inspection and quote, and after walking her through the roof replacement process, Mary was confident that she was fully informed on the roof replacement process and ready for Klaus Larsen to get to work! On the day of, the crew replaced the aging asphalt roof with IKO Dynasty shingles in Granite Black and installed the full Klaus Larsen Roofing system. We replaced any rotted or damaged plywood and then sealed the deck using the SealoronXT Ice & Water, VeloraONE Roof Underlayment, and SealoronXT Deck Tape, which protects the roof deck while allowing the wood to breathe. All vents are now fully sealed, ensuring a leak-free home! Since that installation, Mary hasn’t experienced a single roofing issue, and her roof is still in excellent condition today, backed by our 50-year transferable warranty.
After having such a positive experience with her home, Mary called us again when her large red garage barn began showing signs of failure. After every storm, she was picking up shingles from the ground, clear evidence that the roof was no longer secure. We fully stripped the barn roof and installed the Klaus Larsen Roofing sealing system. SealoronXT Deck Tape to seal the plywood gaps, Ice & Water protection along the edges, and VeloraONE Underlayment across the rest of the surface. IKO Dynasty shingles in the color Granite Black were once again the perfect choice. They come with a Class 3 impact rating and are warrantied to withstand winds up to 130 MPH, ensuring they won’t go flying off with the next storm.
The most unique challenge came from the curved barn, the third structure Mary owns on her farm, which had extreme weathering and a very steep slope that made installation more complicated. Our crew took extra care here, during the shingle installation, hand-sealing each shingle to ensure long-term adhesion and performance despite the intense pitch. To protect the inside of the barn, which stored hay and other materials, we fully tarped the interior during the roof replacement. Once the installation was complete, our crew raked the entire property to collect every loose nail and piece of debris. Mary is very active on her land and often works with other people on-site, so we made sure everything was left clean and safe.
Now, all three structures, her home, the garage barn, and the curved barn, are protected by Klaus Larsen Roofing Systems. Mary can rest easy. She knows her roofs are backed by top-quality materials, expert installation, and our long-term support. Her property is now fully protected for years to come. The Klaus Roofing Way!
